What have we been up to since last year?
We made the DVD of FIT and are just about to send it out to every secondary schools in the UK!
In 2008/9 Stonewall’s play for schools, FIT written and directed by Rikki Beadle-Blair, went on two extremely successful school tours. This highly acclaimed production had a huge impact on all the young people who saw it. Developed to tackle homophobic bullying in schools, FIT’s now been seen by more than 20,000 pupils around the country.
A massive thanks to all the Brighton Equality Walkers who took part in the 2009 walk and helped to raise in excess of £60,000. Money you raised, with support from other funders, enabled us to turn the hugely successful FIT into a DVD.
Register for the 2010 walk
Stonewall’s research shows that over a third of all young lesbian, gay and bisexual children don’t feel safe at school and 97% of gay pupils hear homophobic phrases such as ‘dyke’ and ‘poof’ in their schools. Where schools have explicit policies that state homophobic bullying is wrong, young people are 60% less likely to be bullied.
Support the Brighton walk this year and help us to grow the Education campaign and eradicate homophobic bullying.
